Meet the people who work behind the scenes of your favourite craft magazine.
You see their work every month – now find out what makes them tick.
LYNELLE SLADE – Editor
Lynelle, our fabulous editor has a problem – she is absolutely fabric-obsessed. Not that being a ‘fabricoholic’ is a problem at Country Threads. Around here we encourage it!
After dabbling in most crafts over the years, she found quilting was where her heart lay. She considers herself lucky to be involved in patchwork in her day job as well as designing her own work in her free time.
Previously an interior designer, Lynelle has an eye for what works and what doesn’t, whether it be which colour fabric to use in one of her quilts or what direction the editorial should take in the magazine. She lives with her husband of eight years, David, and their gorgeous black Labrador, Harry. When she’s not working hard as the editor of the third fastest-growing magazine in the country, Lynelle can be found in the office lunchroom at noon,
hand-piecing her vibrant quilts.
DANIELLE TEBB - Acting Editor
Another addition to the Country Threads team, Danielle Tebb comes from a patchwork and quilting background.
My parents taught me an appreciation of all things handmade from a very early age. Mum has always encouraged me, albeit with some head shaking when I leap into a project without giving any thought as to how I plan to finish it. We can usually be found at opposite sides of our converted billiard table, either helping each other with projects or simply stitching in companionable silence. I usually have at least seven projects on the go at once and I maintain that this gives me a reasonable variety of things to do.
I have just spent almost nine years working at the Society of Australian Genealogists where I was fortunate to meet and work with an amazing group of people. Not only has my life been enriched by their friendship and generosity, but my passion for history was reinforced through studying the family unit in minute detail through the generations.
Recently, however, the opportunity to work with beautiful quilts and gain industry knowledge, not to mention the lure of the lunchtime sewing circle, proved far too tempting – but I did not leave before making a significant start on a signature quilt to capture my memories of the time I spent there!
JAMIE-LEE HOGAN - Editorial Assistant
Jamie-Lee has recently entered our fun yet often crazy world of craft and deadlines, and as a graduate from Newcastle University, she’s a perfect addition.
Having completed her Arts degree in which she majored in Film, Media and Cultural studies, it’s obvious she’s always had a passion for writing and magazines – and she’s delighted to be a part of the Country Threads and Australian Country Craft and Decorating team.
“I love to write and I read a huge variety of books and magazines, so to be working for Country Threads and Australian Country Craft and Decorating is a dream come true,” she smiles. She confesses to owning piles of magazines at home and relishes reading them over again whenever she can steal a few minutes for herself. But it’s not unusual to find her spending her spare time with her fiancé, Alex, and pet boxer, Bailey.
Although Jamie-Lee is not a keen crafter, she tells us she has a love for scrapbooking and is learning how to crochet – even if she’s having a little difficulty picking it up!
MATTHEW WARE –
Graphic Designer
Besides from the typical customer service jobs working at Express Publications this is Matt’s first full time job in graphic design. Although he admits that he’s not a crafter himself, he loves being able to be creative in his design work and to spend his days working in the profession he studied for. He loves Chinese food and his favourite colour is blue. When asked to describe himself in five words, he says “Christian, engaged, fun, adventurous and friendly.” And what does Matt like most about Threads? “That I get to design it!”
